How to Prepare your Chicken Wings

There are a few ways to prepare your whole wings, half wings, and tenders.  Almost all the recipes on the site can use the buffalo sauces and marinades interchangeably.  Experiment and let us know.  (By the way, some will work with shrimp just as easily!)

Let’s look at the preparation for each.

  1. Whole Wings
These are the easiest, since there is very little prep.  Cut off the very tip of the wing.  There is no meat there and in most opinions, it is just annoying to have in your way.  Leaving the skin on the wing will make the wing crispier, but taking off the skin is a little healthier.
  2. Tenders
You can find these already cut, cleaned and ready to go in the store.  If not, your tenders are cut from the white breast meat of the chicken.   Cut the breast meat from the chicken bones and place on a cutting board.  Cut the chicken into strips (the size really depends on your preferences)
  3. Half Wings – The Most Popular for Buffalo Wings
Take your whole wing and cut off the tip of the wing (same as the whole wings).  Next, cut the wing at the joint.  This will give you two pieces of chicken, approximately the same length.

Don’t forget Kitchen SAFETY!

When you are using/cutting raw chicken, make sure to keep it away from all your other food, ingredient and other containers.  Make sure to use a knife or other utensils separately for the chicken.  Wash your hands, utensils and cutting board after handling the chicken.
